Risks, legality and how we keep this space safe

This page is not a formality. Read it before exploring anything discussed on this site.

These stories represent individual experiences and are not medical advice. Experiences with psychedelic substances vary significantly and may involve medical, psychological and legal risks.

Medical and psychological risks

Psychedelic experiences can trigger intense fear, confusion, dissociation and lasting distress. Risk is meaningfully higher for people with a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Cardiovascular conditions, seizure disorders and pregnancy all raise additional concerns. An intense experience without support afterwards can leave someone worse off than before.

Medication interactions

Interactions with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, lithium, tramadol and other medications range from blunted effects to serious danger. Lithium plus a classic psychedelic has been associated with seizures.

Never stop or change a prescribed medication on your own. Discuss it with the clinician who prescribed it.

Legality

Psilocybin remains a Schedule I substance under US federal law. Some states and cities have decriminalised possession or created regulated supervised-service programs; many have not, and rules change.

Legality outside the US varies widely. It is your responsibility to know the law where you are. We do not help anyone obtain controlled substances anywhere.

Retreats and facilitators

Anyone can call themselves a guide. Ask about training, screening practices, medical intake, emergency protocols, ratios of staff to participants, refund terms and integration support.

Treat pressure, secrecy, grand promises, sexual boundary violations or discouraging you from talking to a doctor as reasons to walk away.

Community rules

No sourcing, selling, buying or trading. No dosing prescriptions for other people. No medical claims. No encouraging anyone to stop prescribed treatment.

Be kind to people mid-struggle. Reports go to human moderators, and posts flagged for sourcing language are held for review.
